Noninvasive, gentle, and virtually painless, laser hair removal is a state-of-the-art technology that works by delivering short pulses of precision laser heat directly into active-growth hair follicles. When the pigments in the follicle absorb this energy, it renders the follicle inactive so that it can no longer produce hair.
Laser hair removal is a preferential treatment, meaning that the laser effectively targets hair follicles without affecting skin cells or other tissues.
The team at Skinsation Medical Spa uses the Icon™ Aesthetic System by CynoSure®, which is the most advanced form of intense pulsed light (IPL) laser technology available.
In addition to being equally effective for both small and large treatment areas, laser hair removal can be used on virtually any part of your body. The most common treatment areas include:
Although most of the patients who choose to undergo laser hair removal are interested in its time-saving benefits, the procedure has other advantages, too.
After completing a full treatment cycle, you’ll probably notice that the complexion of your skin is a bit more uniform at the treatment site, and you may also notice that your skin is noticeably smoother and silkier.
The Icon laser also has the only FDA-cleared Skintel® Melanin Reader™, which helps determine the perfect setting for each skin type to make it safe and effective.
Laser hair removal is a quick and relatively painless procedure. As the laser passes over an active-growth hair follicle and transmits a pulse of energy, it feels similar to having a tiny rubber band snapped against your skin. This brief sensation is usually well-tolerated by most people.
Before treatment begins, you’ll be given eye shields to protect your retinas and corneas from the laser. Your skin is gently held taut during the procedure so that the laser can be systematically passed, spot-by-spot, over the entire treatment area.
The entire process can last anywhere from a few minutes to more than an hour, depending on the size of the area you’re treating.
Because hair grows in cycles and the laser is only effective on active-growth follicles, you’ll need multiple treatments to achieve complete results.
You can expect to see a 10-25% reduction in hair after your first laser hair treatment, and permanent hair removal after five to seven sessions, with each treatment spaced four to six weeks apart.*
