Vaginal Rejuvenation Q & A

What is vaginal atrophy?

As you approach menopause, your body begins producing lower levels of estrogen and progesterone, the reproductive hormones that control menstruation and fertility.

Estrogen also plays a major role in sustaining normal lubrication as well as vaginal tissue elasticity and acidity. Having less estrogen can make your vaginal tissues drier, thinner, less elastic, and more fragile.

Other symptoms associated with vaginal atrophy include:

  • Urinary incontinence or chronic UTIs
  • Burning or frequent urination
  • Discomfort and decreased lubrication during sex
  • Light bleeding following intercourse

Women who have never had a vaginal birth are more likely to develop vaginal atrophy later in life, as are women who are sexually inactive. That’s because sexual activity increases blood flow to the vagina and promotes tissue elasticity.

How can FemiLift help?

FemiLift uses advanced Pixel CO2 fractional laser technology by Alma® to safely and effectively rejuvenate the tissues that line your vaginal canal.

The treatment works by making microscopic injuries in these tissues, which triggers your body’s immune system response to help restore the collagen, glycogen, and hyaluronic acid that make up healthy vaginal tissue.

These changes cause your vaginal tissues to plump up and become more hydrated; the glycogens and hyaluronic acid also restore normal vaginal pH to help encourage the return of healthy bacteria and reduce the risk of chronic UTIs.

In just two or three quick treatment sessions, FemiLift laser therapy can stop atrophic vaginitis, provide complete symptom relief, and restore vaginal function.

What is the FemiLift treatment like?

During the quick procedure, a vaginal probe is used to ease the laser into your vagina, all the way up to your cervix. As it emits gentle, painless pulses of laser energy, it activates the production of new collagen within the vaginal tissue.

FemiLift is an in-office procedure that takes no longer than 10 minutes to complete. Although most women see noticeable results following the first treatment, the average woman needs two or three treatments for optimal results.

Treatments are spaced four weeks apart to give your body’s healing mechanisms enough time to rejuvenate the tissues. Many women experience results that last as long as two years.

What can I expect following treatment?

Compared to vaginal rejuvenation procedures that use radiofrequency energy to restore vaginal and urinary function, FemiLift yields better, longer-lasting results with fewer risks and potential side effects.

FemiLift is painless, has virtually no side effects, and doesn’t require any recovery time, meaning you can resume most normal activities immediately.

It is recommended, however, that you refrain from having vaginal intercourse or using tampons for about a week to give your vaginal tissues enough time to heal.
